Pottery Barn Kids

Nailing the concept of voice: During the 3 1/2 years I was a contract writer and editor for Williams-Sonoma, I worked almost exclusively on the Pottery Barn Kids brand, functioning as de facto editorial manager after they eliminated full-time editorial positions. I worked across verticals, supplying cover lines and product copy for catalogs; tag lines; and promotional email subject lines and content. I managed three other freelancers. My job was to make sure the voice—warm and relatable, authoritative yet approachable, playful but not awkward—was consistent throughout.


Rhapsody Music

Music editorial: My eight-year freelance editing relationship with Rhapsody (one of the earliest subscription streaming music services, eventually purchased by Napster) grew my familiarity with the world of music writing and music journalism. I edited descriptive copy for playlists, albums, and artists, as well as content for their blog. This content is no longer live.
